A Path to Independence for Entrepreneurs in Iraq

Date: November 14, 2024

In Iraq, struggling entrepreneurs often need more fundamental skills, such as marketing and animal care, to succeed. In this project implemented by Near East Foundation, participants receive loans and training to grow their businesses and reach their full potential.

The participants are encouraged to share their issues and challenges with experienced trainers so they can work together to find practical solutions. After the training, the participants are better equipped to manage their businesses independently and no longer need to rely on others for support.

Many of the women in the program are widows or divorced, and they have no other means of financial support. This project helps them gain the skills and resources they need to support themselves and their families.

GIZ, in collaboration with the Near East Foundation and funded by BMZ, is implementing projects in Iraq that support businesses led by both men and women. These initiatives focus on creating employment opportunities by employing diverse strategies to promote enterprise development, enhance access to information, and provide vital financial support. Key activities include technical and commercial training, mentorship sessions, and financial grant mechanisms.
