Since January, NEF has been actively supporting Armenians who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh in September 2023. Thanks to the generosity of many of our supporters, we were able to provide grants to ten local Armenian organizations through our “Challenge Fund for Emergency Response.”

So far, over 370 displaced people have received vital assistance, such as:

  • Essential household items like beds, heaters and appliances
  • Vocational training and resources to help rebuild livelihoods
  • Job training, placement and complimentary bread at a local bakery
  • Assistive devices for people with disabilities

One inspiring story comes from Davit*. He is skilled in woodcraft and plastering, but his tools and equipment were left behind because he had to flee his home so quickly.

Davit settled in Armenia without any family, and he struggled with homesickness as he had to live alone in an unfamiliar place. Local authorities referred him to our community partner, Equal Rights, Equal Opportunities (EREO), who helps displaced people with disabilities rebuild their livelihoods.

Through EREO and support from our donors, Davit received the tools and materials he needed to restart his business. Recently he hosted an exhibition of his work, marking a hopeful step forward.

Davit’s diligence and unbreakable spirit have inspired others to participate in EREO programs. The support provided through this project offers him and other displaced people a fresh start.
